We have worked with Frieder for over 20 years. Frieder is an extremely talented jewelry artist. He is simply amazing. He designed and made my wife’s engagement and wedding ring for her in 1999, a beautiful intricate broach for my mother, several earrings and necklaces for wife and daughter. He is very caring and kind… a fabulous person.

Frieder H. Lauer

Graduate Gemologist, Jewelry Designer, Master Goldsmith, CAD Modeling Artist

Immigrant from Germany, Frieder received his education in gemology and jewelry design from the GIA (Graduate Gemologist, class of 1987, Santa Monica Campus). He is looking back at more than 35 years of professional experience.

Starting out in 1989 in a retail store setting as staff designer, he created sketches at the counter for walk-in clients and carved intricate wax models for custom jewelry pieces. Soon, his creativity was recognized with a featured piece in the 1990 AGTA Spectrum Award Highlights Video. During his first decade as a jewelry designer, Frieder had the unique privilege to learn the art of traditional, classic European goldsmithing from an accomplished French master.

From 2001 to 2025 Frieder worked in Houston, Texas, as an independent craftsman and free-lance jewelry artist catering to a number of jewelry designers and jewelry retailers. Soon, the unique challenges he encountered as a niche jeweler forced him to expand the scope of his skills and the choice of his tools: The setter’s microscope, the laser welder and finally the combination of CAD and 3-D printing: novel technologies became tools he applied and used routinely to boost his creative options and expand his artistic capabilities at the bench.

Frieder’s work has received recognition repeatedly even on an international level by most major Jewelry Trade Organizations, such as the American Gem Trade Association (AGTA), the Japan Pearl Promotion Society, Jewelers Circular Keystone (JCK) and the Manufacturing Jewelers & Suppliers of America (MJSA).

In the summer of 2025 Frieder closed his atelier in Houston, Texas, and moved to Traverse City in northern Michigan. Frieder Lauer still continues his longstanding work relations as senior design consultant and featured designer of high-end custom jewelry for the Houston based diamond house and online jewelry retailer BrianGavinDiamonds.com. Frieder Lauer also remains committed to serve a curated group of very loyal private clients.

The only artistic limitation is your mind

Modern manufacturing technologies are changing the way fine pieces of jewelry are made. We strive to use these new tools to raise the bar for our creative ambitions. To artisans and makers, technology is a very powerful tool that enables us today to augment our potential: we push the limits of our craftsmanship and expand the horizons of our creativity. Technology never replaces the mastery of skills with traditional hand tools: at the very beginning is still pencil and paper to record and visualize what is on our mind. At the very end is still the diligent human hand guided by a trained eye that lovingly finishes every one of our pieces to perfection.

I can’t recommend Frieder and his son enough. They have worked with some really difficult clients in the past and the results were astoundingly good. They exceeded expectations each time. If you want quality work, managed expectations, and happy clients, Frieder should be on your short list.

Sustainable manufacturing. Environmental responsibility. Ethical sourcing. We are committed to our environmental and social responsibilities. We are concerned to practice our art as good stewards and caring citizens of our planet. Social justice and fair trade in the supply chain for our materials is important to us.We work with 100% recycled-only precious metals from SCS certified suppliers. We make it a point to know our vendorsof colored stones, pearls and diamonds in person, ensuring that we deal only with people and companies that respect international fair-trade guidelines and share our commitment to ethical sourcing.

Frieder is an ingenious designer of unique high-end jewelry. His talent is only rivalled by his unparalled craftsmanship. There is no better source if one looks for extraordinary customized pieces of jewelry.
